Boot Hill, formerly a Potter's Field for the friendless and unfortunate, is at the edge of the little frontier town. The 43 persons buried there have since been removed. First cemetery then a school site, it is now crowned with the Municipal Building and a monument to the cowboy.

This is Boot Hill Cemetery 1871 - 1879. This plot is a monument to those who died with their boots on, and were buried with their boots on. "To any Traveler who may pass this way, and climb this lonely hill and say a prayer for us who early found our rest upon the prainics wind swept ageless breast. Weep not of us who early made our beds, wrapped in our blankets, saddles for our heads. For we are happy here, secure and still, locked in this rock strewn silent sun-baked hill." Dodge City's famous Old Front Street is reproduced in authentic replica, as it appeared in the 1870's at the foot of Boot Hill. Front Street with it's Long Branch Saloon, Rath & Wright General Store, City Drug, and the Beauty & Kelly Restaurant holds s unique place in Dodge City's history. It was on this street that more frontier history was written than on any other street in the West.

Cattlemen who in the early days drove their cattle overland from Texas to Montana used to make Dodge City their headquarters, and it was likewise on the Santa Fe Trail. Today it is a thriving little city with a population of 3,000. The altitude is 2,493 feet.
