The Shawnee Steam Plant which is being built by the Tennessee Valley Authority near Paducah, Kentucky, has 10 stacks, each of which towers 250 feet above the ground. This $216,000,000 power plant, one of the largest in the world, will generate 1,500,000 kilowatts, part of the power requirements of the new billion dollar Atomic Energy Plant, also near Paducah. Construction of both plants was begun in January 1951, with completion scheduled for late 1955.

Airview, TVA's Kentucky Dam, Navigation Lock and Beautiful Kentucky Lake, near Paducah, Western Kentucky. The Dam is 206 feet high and 8,650 feet long. TVA's Kentucky Dam and Lake-Kentucky Dan, in the Tennessee River about 20 miles from paducah, Kentucky, was built at a cost of $114,000,000. The dam creates Kentucky Lake which is 184 miles long an has a shoreline of 2,200 miles. Construction of Kentucky Dam was begun in 1938 and completed in 1944.

The Kentucky Dam will materially reduce flood creasts on the Mississippi River south of Cairo. Illinois. Kentucky Dam is 206 feet high and 8,650 feet long. Surface area of the lake behind the dam is 158,500 acres with shoreline of more than 2,000 miles.

Description:
Dating back to 1868, Wallerstein's is one of the few Paducah concerns founded in the post Civil war era, which is still operating. Here, Irvin S. Cobb, beloved writer of numerous tales of fiction, bought his first pair of short pants, and later, his first pair of long ones. Here too, as a young cub reporter, Cobb spent much of his time with friends and cronies, storing up choice bits of character which he later incorporated in many of his stories.
