Description:
Construction on south Dakota's State Capitol Building in Pierre, was begun in 1905 but it was not formally dedicated until June 30, 1910. The depth, east to west, is 297 feet north to south, 142 feet; and the height is 165 feet. The super-structure is of Beford limestone and the first story is of Marquette raindrop sandstone, the total cost of the building itself was slightly less than $1,000,000.00 but an annex which was added recently raised the cost by $400,000.00 more. The interior of the Capitol Building has been handsomely decorated with nine mural paintings by America's noted artists.
