Description:
The first Church of the Holy Name was built in 1923 on Read St. The present church of Colonial type was built in 1940 and was dedicated in 1941 and is now located on Hanover St. Maginnis, Walsh and Kennedy of Boston were the architects.


Coggeswell Fountain

Description:
In 1882 the Coggeswell Fountain was built on the north side of the Old City Hall. Ice was placed in the well to cool the water in the summer. Inscribed thereon: Citizens and Strangers Drink Freely of this Cooling Stream. It will promote Temperance Faith, Hope and Charity. Moved and preserved at the Historical Society until Nov. 1975. Placed in this Park as a gift to the City of Fall River from the Financial and Business Community.

An historic monument to the devotion of the French-Canadians of the ?Flint Village?, this unique, Corinthian-style church was dedicated in 1906, Msgr. J. A. Prevost, pastor. It has not a single supporting pillar, and Cremonini's interpretation of Michelangelo's ?Last Judgment? is reputedly the largest in the world.

St. William's Roman Catholic Church in the Maplewood area of Fall River. Contemporary Georgian in style, it was dedicated November 1, 1961. The Baptistry Bell, suspended from stainless steel supports, cast by H. N. Hooper & Co., of Boston in 1852, originally hung in a church in Pawtucket and a Textile Mill in Warwick, R. I.

Awed by the huge 2,700 lb. projectile on display beneath the 16-inch guns of the Battleship Massachusetts at Battleship Cove, Fall River, are these two youngsters. Largest of our Navy's World War II weapons, the 16-inch gun fired these shells at targets over 23-miles away throughout the war at North Africa, the pacific Islands and the Japanese mainland. It cost 80-million dollars and three-years time to build this 35,000 ton ships.

Description:
The original ship's bell of the Battleship Massachusetts is rung in true navy tradition by a U. S. Sea Cadet on duty at Battleship Cove, Fall River, to the delight of thousands of visitors. In 1965, the Battleship was saved from scrapping by the contributions of Scholl children and Massachusetts citizens. It is now the World War II Memorial to 13,000 war dead of the Commonwealth and open to the public year round.

An unusual bird's-eye view of the Battleship Massachusetts at Battleship Cove, Fall River. The hills of the city in the background look down proudly on the massive 80-million dollar warship that fought our enemies in World War II. Her record reads; 35-naval engagements; 18-downed enemy aircraft; 5-enemy ships sunk; 9-enemy shore bombardment; and the rescue of 7 pilots from the sea. Today the ship is a living memorial to 13,000 war dead of Massachusetts.

Description:
Fall River Historical Society organized in 1921, and opened its museum in 1937. It is housed in a structure built of Fall River Granite and originally erected in 1843 on Columbia St. It was moved to 451 Rock St. in 1870, when each stone was marked, dragged through the streets by oxen, reassembled, enlarged and interior rebuilt. Surviving example of mansions built by affluent mill owners when Fall River was the largest cloth manufacturing city in the world. It is filled with historical material of the local area such as the Fall River Line, Skeleton in Armor, Battle of Fall River, the Lizzie Bordon Murders, etc.
