Canoe Camp in near shore of Clearwater River, where L-C Expedition hewed dug-outs from large native pine, "burning out the holler of our canoes". The North Fork flows past Ahsahka village on the farther shore. Here, the expedition cut off the foretop of their 38 horses and left them in care of the friendly nest perce. They then buried there saddles. parts of their powder and balls under cover of night. The next day they embarked and began the 60 miles to Lewiston, thence on to the Pacific.

Idaho's Farragut State Park, Site of the 1965 Girl Scout Senior Roundup, situated at the southern tip of beautiful Lake Pend Oreille, midway between Sandpoint and Coeur d'Alene. Bay view, "the floating village" is at left center on Squaw Bay. Buttonhook Bay is the graceful, unique cove at lower right. Lake pend Oreille, glacially formed and over 1,000 feet deep, stretches away for 50 miles towards the left. The mountains are the bitterroots, with Cape Horn at the left and Bernard Peak at the right. Nearly 400,000 men trained here at Farragut Naval Training Center veterans will enjoy participation in the Girl Scout Roundup.

Gold dredge on Crooked River, between Elk City and Orogrande. These dredges recall the gold years between the early 30's and late 50's when they were seen on many Idaho stream beds. Huge mouths full of gravel were screened down to the fine and heavier gold. These huge machines have disappeared because of (1) the price of gold, pegged in the early 30's (2) present necessity of grooming worked stream beds, and (3) the diminishing number of unworked gravel beds.

A primitive log cabin mission, long since gone, was built by the Coeur d'Alene Indians, supervised by the black-robed missionaries. Two-thirds of the tribe were baptized and agriculture was begun. Floods gave trouble however and in 1846, the mission moved to Cataldo. Note the attractive historical marker, one of nearly 200 erected by Idaho Hwy. Dept.
