Description:
This Greek Revival Style Mansion was built in 1835 by John Wood, Quincy's first settler, who erected a log cabin in 1822 at Front and Delaware Streets. The Society was formed in 1896, acquired the Mansion in 1907 and maintains Museum displays, loan collections and library. It is open at regular visiting hours.

Quincy, Illinois has the only castle on the Mississippi. Villa Kathrine crowning the summit of the highest bluffs of the river, was built in 1900 for retired George Metz, who told of his travels in the land of Harounal-Rashid and his dream to build a home in Quincy that might recall those days of happy laitering in the oriental lotus lands. The Cattle is now a part of Quincy Parks and commands one of the loveliest views of the Mississippi.
