1907 Ford
Chrome unused
Description:
Touring Car 6 Cyl. 40 h. P. Model K Price new: $3,00. In 1906 the Ford Motor Company made a radical departure from the small two cylinder cars and the medium-sized four-cylinder Model B they had prviously been building. Two new models wre introduced: the light Model n four-cylinder run about and the large six-cylinder Model K touring. Both had the same basic design: L-head engines driving through two-speed and reverse planetary transmissions by shaft to the rear axles. For the N, this was not a bad plan, since it was a light and very lively car. The K, on the other handk, was such too heavy for a two-speed transmission of any sort, and it is a tribute to the flexibility of the engine that it would run from seven to seventy miles per hour on the top gear. The Sucdess of the Model N led to the building of the famous Model T, while the K, heavy and expensive, was discontinued. This car was restored by Joseph W. Suydam. Builders: Ford Motor Company, Detriot, Mich.

1928 Ford
Chrome unused
Description:
By 1927 Henry Ford realized the need for a completely new model to replace the Model T Ford, introduced in 1908. The master industrialist had discovered that style was now a crucial factor in selling automobiles, and he shut his plant down early that year to retool. When the Model A finally appeared, "a new car from radiator cap to rear axle," showrooms were mobbed with curious people. Changes included a three-speed selective Transmission with standard shift, four-sheel mechanical brakes, and hydraulic shock absorbers. The crakshaft was both dynamically and statically balanced, and water and oil pumps had been added. With special large tires and rear-wheel drive, the car ran on beaches better than four-wheel drive machines. the engine developed 40 h.p. and ran the car over 65 m.p.h. Many automobile experts feel that the Model A Ford was the best car ever built. Builders Ford Motor Company, Detroit, Mich.
