Description:
Prospectors knew there was gold here in 1870 but they didn't think there was enough to bother with. In 1902 tow prospectors from Tonopah, Harry Stimler and Billy Marsh found enough gold to make a lot of people rush to Goldfield. The rush lasted until 1907 swelling Goldfield to 20,000 people, largest city in the state. In 1905 there were 10,000 people in Goldfield and only one bath tub in a barber shop! Most people in those early days took a bath once a year whether they needed it or not! There was still a considerable amount of mining and milling here up until 1940 when the 100 stamp consolidated mill shut down. The Florence mine is in the foreground. Goldfield is in the midground.
