Named for the Grant Brothers who built this section of the Santa Fee Railway - it is today a trading center for a large agricultural and ranching country. Navajos in their colorful costumes may be seen regularly on the streets. These are the workers of the carrot fields - in which industry Grants ranks among the first in the entire U.S.A. Grants, New Mexico, was situated on the Old Pony Express trail to the Pacific Coast in Pioneer days. It was a station for change of horses, wagon trains and mail, an was named for President Ulysses S. Grant when he was General of the U. S. army. Today, Grants (the S being adopted) is a progressive little city on Highway 66 about half-way between Albuquerque and Gallup, N. M. Nestling in the foothills of Mt. taller, It is picturesquely surrounded by Spanish American and Indian villages.
