Description:
The Castaneda, At Las Vegas, is a long low building, faced with brick, roofed with red tiles and patterned after the old California Missions. It is named for Pedro de Castaneda, a Spanish soldier who was the principal historian of Coronado's expedition into the Southwest in 1540. Las Vegas is the second city in New Mexico in size; is a railroad division point; and in addition to being one of the most important wool shipping points, does a large general business. The name Las Vegas is Spanish, meaning “The Meadows.”
