Description:
World's greatest sculptural work began in 1927. Gutzon Borglum, world's artist and sculptor, planned and supervised the monument. Financed by contributions and federal funds. Busts are porportionate to men 465 ft. high. top of Washington's head to tip of Chin 60 ft. Rock is ageless granite. Busts are of Washington, Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Lincoln. This view shows Mt. Rushmore, before work was started in 1927 and the gigantic monument as it looks to-day. The Memorial carved out of Granite Rock by the famous sculptor Gutzon Borglum is 62oo ft. above sea level and the Busts are proportionate to men 465 ft. high.

The White River Bad Lands is the most important Bad Land area in the world. Nowhere in the world can the influence of erosion be better studied or more easily understood. This area lies chiefly in southwestern South Dakota. No place shows better how the Lord built up the rocks and soils of the land. Layers of muds, sands and gravels were laid down through unnumbered years and were accompanied by animals that were suited to the weather and geography of the time. This is the reason that fossils of different animals are found at different layers of depth in the Bad Lands
