Description:
As a rule a number of weddings take kplace on the morning of the Corn Dance. These weddings are performed in the church by the Catholic prist. After the ceremony the entire wedding party forms in a parade and proceeds to the plaza where the damce is held. The figure of the Holy virgin is carried under a canopy and deposited in a temporary shrine on the plaza. The priests in their robes and vestments accompany the Procession. The Pueblo Indian is an industrious and intelligent citizen, who alternately labors and then relaxes himself in games and ceremonies. His gods are inumerable ? gods of harvest and of famine, of sun and rain and snow, of peace and war. A "close-up" or intimate view of the ground floor arrangement of these remarkable ruins of pueblo type houses which were from one to three stories in height. Thirteen miles west of Albuquerque is the Indian Pueblo of Isleta. One of the striking features of this pueblo is the old church. It is easily distinguished by the two immense bell towers. Notwithstanding the presence of a well preserved church and the constant attendance of a priest, Isleta possesses an estufa, or native ceremonial chamber, where ancient religious rites are still observed.

Description:
The Estufa is the sacred meeting place of each pueblo village, where the men congregate and where all of the sacred rites of their religious ceremonies are held. The Estufa is a circular structure built mostly under ground and entered by a single opening in the roof. The Estufas are now used as places for holding the civil, religious and secret ceremonies of the tribe, but they were originally only the sleeping and lounging places of the men and could not be entered by the women. There are sacred rites, lasting three days, held in the Estufa previous to the Corn Dance.

Description:
More than a score of these pueblos are scattered over New Mexico. Isleta lies close to the Santa Fe tracks eleven miles west of Albuquerque. The Pueblo Indian is not curious and of the outer world knows little. Many are housed today in the same structures in which their forefathers were discovered and three and a half centuries of contact with the white man has not materially changed their manner of life. The Indian tribes that roamed over mountain and plain have become wards of the Government; the Pueblo Indian has absolutely maintained his individuality, self-respecting and self-supporting.

Description:
As seen from the train. The soldier and the priest marched side by side in the days of the Spanish conquest, and simultaneously with the occupation of new Mexico mission churches of the Jesuit and Franciscan orders were built. The exact date of the present church is hard to determine as the pueblo has been moved from one side of the Rio grandee river to the other; it has existed, however, since the Spanish conquest. The Santo Domingo Indians profess the catholic religion, though still adhering to many of their tribal religious ceremonies.

Here at White Sands, hundreds of acres of pure gypsum forms one of the most spectacular of scenic highlights. Few, if any plants, can exist in this beautiful expanse of lovely white sand. One of the most unusual of picnic grounds in the nation is found in the heart of this fabulous spot. Fifteen Miles South of Alamogordo, New Mexico, and about eighty Miles North of El Paso, Texas, the White Sands are continually growing and encroaching upon the desert at the foot of the San Andres Mts.
