Description:
Superstition Mountain was so named because of the great fear with which it was regarded by the Pima and Maricopa Indians who told gruesome tales of attacks by Apaches who lurked on the heights and swooped down from this stronghold visiting death and torture upon the peace-loving desert tribes. Legend has it that a mysterious little old man, Snowbeard, the Dutchman, came trudging down from the mountain heavily laden with gold nuggets and died before divulging the whereabouts of his fabulous find. Each year in early Spring the Dons' Club of Phoenix, as host to hundreds of winter visitors, conducts a trek into the Superstitions and enact the stories of the region.

Description:
Established in 1870 at 12th and Mason Sts., St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital was renamed by the Sisters of St. Francis, honoring Count and Mrs. John A. Creighton, their great benefactors, upon dedication of the first unit of the present structure, at Tenth & Castelar Sts., in 1892. The beautiful Romanesque chapel was erected in 1900; the north section and wing in 1908, and the fifth floor added in 1922. The institution has 450 beds and 60 bassinets. Construction of “Our Lady of Victory Unit”, started September 17, 1948, provides 135 additional beds, for a model Nervous and Mental division. The School of Nursing and Nurses' Residence, erected in 1923, houses 140 students and teaching facilities. St. Joseph's is the largest of 21 hospitals operated by The Poor Sisters of St. Francis Seraph, and the eleventh ranking Catholic hospital in the United States.

Description:
The bawl of a steer to a cowboy's ear Is music of sweetest strain; And the yelping notes O the gray coyotes to him are a glad refrain. And his jolly songs Speed him along As he thinks of the little gal With golden hair who is waiting there At the bars of the home corral. For a kingly crown in he noisy town His saddle he wouldn't change; No life so free As the life we see Way out on the Yaso range. His eyes are bright And his heart as light As the smoke of his cigarette; there's never a care for his soul to bear No trouble to make him fret. The rapid beat Of his bronco's feet On the sod as he speeds along; Keeps living time to the ringing rhyme of his rollicking cowboy song. Hike it cowboys For the range away On the back of a bronco of steel; With a careless flirt Of a rawhide quirt And a dig of a roweled heel. The winds may blow And the thunder growl Or the breezes may safely A cowboy's life (moan: Is a royal life His saddle his kingly throne. Saddle up, boys For the work is play when love's in the cowboy's when his heart is light 9eyes As the clouds of white that swim in the summer skies.

Coyotes – These are the “Babies” whose yapping and howling at night chills the blood of our Eastern visitors at Dude Ranches and in the smaller towns of the Southwest.
Description:
O Lord, l've never where churches grow; l've loved creation better as it stood That day you finished it, so long ago, And looked upon your work and called it good. Just let me live my life as l've begun! And give me work that's open to the sky: Make me a partner of the Wind and sun, And I won't ask a life that's soft and high. Make me as big and open as the plains; As honest as the horse between my knees; Clean as the wind that blows behind the rains; Free as the hawk that circles down the breeze. Just keep and eye on all that's done and said; Just right me sometime when I turn aside; And guide me on the long, dim trail ahead That stretches upward towards the Great Divide.
