Donated by John Crouse, a Syracuse Merchant / banker and University trustee. Designed by Archimedes Russell in the Romanesque style, the building was dedicated in 1889. Made of meadow sandstone and costing approximately $500,000, it was quoted at eh time to be "one o the most beautifully impressive structures of its kind in the world." On the National Register of Historic Places.
