Description:
Boulder Canyon Project of the Bureau of Reclamation. Two Giant concrete-lined Spillways, one located on each wall of Black Canyon gorge, act as final control of flood waters, originating above Boulder Dam. In case of unexpected Colorado river Floods, the weir gates, installed between the piers along the edge of each spillway, can be raised an additional sixteen feet. This automatically provides 2,216,000 acre feet additional storage capacity in the reservoir, sufficient to store any large unforeseen of-season flood. The spillways are each large enough in all dimensions to float the greatest battleship in the world.
