The magnificent pipe organ of the Hammond Museum was designed by the late John hays Hammond Jr., and has over 10,000 pipes, four manuals, a floating baroque manual and 144 stops. The guilded wood carving surrounding the organ console is 15th century German Gothic and once stood around the console of the organ of the Marienkirche in Lubeck where Buxtehude was organist, and his friend, Bach, often visited him there. |
