This is a reproduction of an old print of "The turn of the tune" companion picture to "The Arkansas Traveller." the original paintings were done by Edward Payson Washburn the son ot the Rev. Cephas Washington. Presbyterian minister who came from the East to take charge of an Indian mission in Pope county in 1830. The family moved to Fort Smith Ark., in 1850. Eight years later, the artist painted the "Traveller" at Norristown. in Pope county, Arkansas. The tune, "Arkansas traveller." is generally credited to Col. sandford C. Faulkner. Kentucky native, who came to arkansas in 1829, and served in the Confederate Army in the Civil War. Faulkner county. Arkansas was named for him. this print shows the "Traveller." still on his horse, playing the fiddle to the obvious delight of teh host family, Story has it that it was his ability to "Tun the tume" that won him hospitality for the night from the "natives."
