Additional Details:
This drill is designed to familiarize the future soldiers with the so-called mountain batteries, which are the only class of artillery which can be used in the mountainous districts where there are no railroads. In mountain batteries all the gun parts, ammunition, etc., are carried on horses, mules or other pack animals, and the drills include the unloading of the packs, assembling the guns, etc., as well as target practice and the return of the gun sections to place on the backs of the pack animals
