Dear Mr. Minister,
I urgently request the Government of the Soviet Union to take
immediate steps to halt the needless slaughter of the world's
great whales.
Over exploitation of the Blue, Humpback, Gray, Right and
Bowhead whales has caused the commercial extinction of these
whales and is seriously threatening other species as well.
Whaling is a dying industry and is no longer an economic
necessity for any nation.
I strongly urge your government to support a total ban on all
commercial whaling, to be voted on at the 1981 meeting of the
International Whaling Commission.
