Hudson-Fulton celebration Commission Official post card No 31 Destruction of the statue of George III-After the repeal of the stamp act the people of New York erected in Bowling Green in 1770 a leaden statue of George III. After the declaration of independence the patients pulled the statue down, July 9, 1776, and melted it into bullets.
