Description:
Formed by the 11 Southern States seceding from the U.S. in 1860 and 1861. The confederate Flag (center), was adopted September, 1861, after General Beauregard decided that a new flag was needed in the Battle of Manssas, July 21, 1861, to be less confusing than the Stars and Bars; or the First National Flag of the Confederacy, which resembled the U.S. Flag (Union) in the dust, smoke and heat of battle.
