J. W. M. Turner, R.A, the celebrated artist, was born in 1775 and died in 1851. He is famous as a colourist, and his works display great originality and imagination. He left a large number of his pictures to the nation, among them being "Sunrise on the Medway," which now hangs in the Tate Gallery.
