This scene of a good ship's destruction between rock, tide, and wind, might once have been seen any rough day off the coast of Fife, where the headlands of the Ness stand out in the East Neuk. Off this same Neuk coast is a very dangerous reef of rocks, known as the Carr reef, which now is not the standing menace that it used to be, since a lightship has been stationed here.
