Description:
Living beside mighty Niagara, the peaceful tribe of the angoras believed that its roar was the voice of the Great Spirit. Each year it was the custom to offer the fairest of their maidens as a sacrifice. The last of the maidens to be thus scarified was Lelawala, the daughter of chief eagle eye who, after witnessing the sacrificial plunge over the falls, joined his daughter in death after the same fashion. Supposedly, Lelawala, known to us the Maid of the Mist, and her father still live in a crystal cove behind the water-falls.
