The Chief Executive urged the Senate to sell five AWACS planes and other military equipment to Saudi Arabia. The measure was later approved by the full Senate. Senators form left are: Mark O. Hatfield (R-OR), Charles H. Percy (R-IL), John W. Warner (R-VA), Jesse Helms (R-NC), John G. Tower (R-TX), Howard Baker, Jr, (R-TN) and Vice President Bush. October 7, 1981.
