Old Appleton Watermill was built by Alfred McLane in 1824 on spring-fed apple Creek at Old Appleton, Mo. Located just off 1-55 between Cape Girardeau and St. Louis, Mo. Not far upstream is site of the Shawnee Nation (1786 to 1824). an old path, now Kings Highway, passed through the Indian City.
