One of the early ?Western? cities of Nebraska, it is the county seat of Box Butte County. The city was founded in 1888 with a population of 1,000. It has grown to be the ?Cattle Capital of Nebraska? with a present population of 7,845. Hub of the Burlington Railroad, it is also the headquarters for the Nebraska Stockgrowers Association.
