Description:
Portait by Prussian Artist Nicola Marschall. This is the only portrait painted from life. The original is owned by descendants in Memphis, Tenn. Born July 13, 1821, died October 29, 1877. A native Tennesseean, he is buried in Forrest Park, Union Ave, Memphis, Tenn. He was one of the greatest cavalry leaders produced in the Civil War. With little formal education and no previous military experience he enlisted as a privateand attained rank of Lt. General. He was a true military genius!
