Description:
Oldest inland town in the United States, laid out in 1730. Borough chartered in 1747. State Capital. 1799 1817. Congress met here in 1777 for a day. Lancaster is as rich in historic sites as in trade and industry. "Heart of Dutchland" Modeled after an English castle, was built in 1850 by architect John Haviland. Front wall sections are original, while tower and other walls are additions to the original structure.
