Description:
The Commander's House at Camp Independence was built shortly after the great earthquake of 1872; hence its solid frame construction compared to adobe in previous buildings. The Camp was abandoned in 1877, and in 1883 the Commander's House was moved to Independence. It has been refurnished by the Eastern California Museum Assn. and is open for tours except on Mondays and Tuesdays.
