The British airship, R100, made the first crossing of the Atlantic from England to Canada, departing Cardington at 3:50 A.M., July 29, 1930 and arriving at Montréal 78 hours and 51 minutes later. During her fortnight stay in America, she flew to Ottawa, Toronto, Niagara falls and into new York state. The return flight to England took only 51-½ hours. The photograph shows the R100 at her mooring mast. The airship was powered by 6-700 hp rolls-Royce condor engines giving her a maximum speed of 81 mph and a 70 mph cruising speed. Other dimensions were Length - 709 Feet. Maximum Diameter - 131 feet. The Canadian round-trip voyage proved to be her last. The R100 was dismantled in 1931, After the disastrous crash of her sister ship, the R101.
