Description:
Completed in 1953, the plant has incorporated the most efficient facilities and machinery for the productin of highest quality cement. This major industrial works was located near Westpart because of the ready availability of main raw materials. The Company has a packing plant in Westport town, close to the harbour. It operates two bulk carrying vessels and has cement handling installations at Onehungo, Napier and Christchurch. The Guardian Cement Company merged with the Milburn Lime and Cement Company Ltd, Dunedin, in 1963. The joint organisation is controlled under the name of new Zealand Cement Holidays Ltd (registered office at Dunedin).
