This souvenir card from the "Covered Wagon Where the West Begins" at Kearney, Buffalo County, Nebraska, represents that period in American history when the sturdy pioneers of 1849 traveled slowly over the prairies to seek their fortune in the gold hills of California or to make homes in the land of the Indians. As the East had its Mayflower and the Pilgrim Fathers, so the West and its Covered Wagon with its courageous settlers who contributed greatly to the strength and character of our country. The Covered Wagon is half way across the Continent from Boston to San Francisco, being 1733 miles from each city.
