Description:
Monumental Church (Episcopal) stands on Broad Street, on what was formerly Academy Square. It was built as a memorial and upon the site of the old Richmond Theatre, destroyed by fire December 26th, 1811, at which time about 60 persons, including Governor G W. Smith of Virginia, lost their lives; the crypt in the portico contains their ashes and a record of their names.
